5 best Claude MCPs & ChatGPT plugins for SEO (2026)

Inside an AI tool, fetching data is the easy part. The question is whose data, and who does the analysis. The five here put search data behind your assistant. Some run governed analysis over accounts you own. Others sell index scale.

Ranked on

  1. First-party grounding Does it answer from accounts you own: Search Console, analytics, ads, logs? Or from a third-party index and modeled estimates?
  2. Governed analyses & statistics Does the server run defined analyses with significance gates? Those gates stop a thin sample reading as a confident answer. Or does it hand your assistant raw rows to assemble and judge itself?
  3. Provenance on every answer Does each answer carry its scope and a freshness date? Can you click back to the source?
  4. Surface separation in results Does the answer name its surface? Classic rankings, Google AI Overviews and answer-engine citations are three different measurements. A tool that blends them into one number hides the difference.
  5. Locale, language and device scope Ask for the same figure scoped to a named country, language and device. SEO answers move across those cuts. A blended number hides the movement.

Our entry is in this list. We publish it, and rank 1 is ours, so read the criteria first and the competitor entries on their own terms. Each is described from its public documentation, with what it does better than us stated where it does.

How this was checked

Verification window
Aug 2 to Aug 8, 2026
Read for every entry
  • each vendor's own product documentation
  • release notes and changelogs
  • published pricing and metering pages
  • documented client-support matrices

If a vendor's own docs don't mention a feature, we mark it "not documented." That's a gap in what's published, not a verdict that the feature is missing. Where their docs contradicted a claim we carried, we changed the claim.

What is in, and what is not

Qualified for this list

  • We only counted servers published and documented by the vendor that owns the underlying data. No community wrappers, no third-party forks.
  • Each had to document setup for at least one mainstream AI client. Authentication method and per-call cost had to be stated too.

Looked at and left out

  • Community Google Search Console MCP wrappers, Unofficial wrappers around Google's API; no vendor documentation, support or stated metering.
  • TeamDay-AI se-ranking-mcp fork, A third-party fork, not published or supported by SE Ranking.
  • General web-fetch MCPs (Firecrawl, Exa), They retrieve pages and search results but publish no SEO metrics of their own.

The ranking

  1. 1 Quattr MCP + plugin Ours, bias disclosed

Best for: governed answers on your own program

One control plane for AI and traditional search. It runs 58 governed analyses over your first-party data: GSC (incl. BigQuery), GA4/Adobe named goals, Google Ads, Cloudflare and other AI-agent logs. Governed means pre-built analyses with locked definitions. The same question always computes the same way. Those sources join Quattr's own daily AI monitoring across 10+ surfaces, classic SERP tracking, Lighthouse runs and cloud crawls.

    • 58 governed analyses that resolve your entities before filtering. About 96% of real questions never name a tool.
    • Quattr generates its own observation data: daily AI monitoring across 10+ AI search surfaces, classic SERP tracking, Lighthouse runs, cloud crawls
    • Significance tests return a verdict on whether a change is real. Refuses causal claims from a trend line.
    • A skills plugin for Claude runtimes, in private beta

    Consider

    • Reads the accounts you connect. There is no third-party index, so domains you do not own are out of scope.
    • The analyses are fixed. You compose questions against them rather than issuing arbitrary queries.

Works in: Claude · Claude Code · ChatGPT · Cursor · VS Code · Goose Included with a Quattr subscription. No per-call metering.

  2. 2 Semrush MCP

Best for: index-scale research on any domain

Semrush's official remote MCP exposes their public APIs to AI clients over OAuth 2.1. The tools return keyword, traffic, backlink and market estimates from the Semrush index. That index is the product. Reading the outside market is the job here, not reading connected accounts.

    • The broadest third-party index for domains you don't own
    • Mature docs and wide official client support, including a ChatGPT app

    Consider

    • Projects API methods are exposed read-only. The MCP reads project data but cannot create or modify projects.
    • Requires a paid Semrush API subscription. Each request consumes API units. Trends coverage depends on your separate Trends API subscription level.
    • The data is Semrush's own index. That is what an index tool is for. Their MCP page does not say whether Search Console or GA4 data connected to a Semrush project is reachable through these tools.

Works in: Claude Code · ChatGPT · Cursor · VS Code Consumes API units from a Semrush API subscription. Paid-only, per their docs.

  3. 3 Ahrefs MCP

Best for: backlink-index depth plus your projects

Ahrefs' official remote MCP exposes their API as selectable tool groups. Two sources sit behind them. Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer and SERP data come from the Ahrefs index. Rank Tracker, Site Audit and connected Search Console projects come from your own account.

    • Index scale, in their own words: 'the world's largest index of live backlinks'
    • One connector spans the index and your own Ahrefs projects. It ships a tool-group selector for clients with tool caps.

    Consider

    • Each billable request costs at least the documented 50-unit base cost. That holds even when the call returns a single row.
    • Available on paid plans from Lite upward. Each plan caps rows per request and monthly API units.
    • Omitting the tools parameter advertises every tool. The essentials preset cannot be combined with other tool groups.

Works in: Claude · Claude Code · ChatGPT · Copilot Studio · n8n Included on paid plans from Lite up. Metered in shared API units, minimum 50 per billable call.

  4. 4 SE Ranking MCP

Best for: wide tool surface at friendly metering

SE Ranking's official MCP is centrally hosted, authenticated with OAuth 2.1. It exposes 160+ tools covering their keyword, backlink, SERP, audit and AI-search visibility data, plus your rank-tracking projects. A separate, official open-source Claude Skills repo sits on top of that hosted connection.

    • 160+ documented tools across their index and your projects
    • An open-source Claude Skills repo (MIT) ships 20+ ready-to-use SEO and GEO workflows on top of the hosted MCP

    Consider

    • Sub-accounts on a shared workspace cannot connect by sign-in. API access lives with the master account. Sub-account keys are documented as forthcoming.
    • The docs describe a centrally hosted, managed server. A self-hosted or local MCP option is not documented.
    • Wallet credits run $50 per 250K. On annual plans, credits expire at the end of the billing cycle. They do not carry over.

Works in: Claude · Claude Code · ChatGPT · Cursor · VS Code · Windsurf · Gemini CLI Included with every subscription, on plan API credits. Pay-as-you-go from $50 per 250K credits.

  5. 5 DataForSEO MCP

Best for: raw data for builders

DataForSEO's official open-source MCP fronts ten raw data API modules. SERP, keywords, Labs, backlinks and OnPage are among them. So is AI Optimization. That module tracks how brands get mentioned and cited inside LLM answers. Run the server locally, in Docker, or against their hosted endpoint.

    • Ten modules of raw, pay-as-you-go data endpoints under one server
    • Apache-2.0 and self-hostable, with a non-expiring $1 trial credit

    Consider

    • The data is DataForSEO's own crawls and live SERP requests. None of your accounts is connected. None needs to be.
    • Prepaid pay-as-you-go, with a documented $50 minimum payment. Every call draws down that balance.
    • Authentication is your account username and password, in a Base64 Basic Auth header. That is not a scoped OAuth token.

Works in: Claude Desktop · Claude Code · ChatGPT · Cursor · Gemini CLI · n8n Pay-as-you-go API credits, $50 minimum top-up. No subscription required.

Side by side

Every entry against the same five criteria. Not documented means the vendor's own material does not address it, a gap in what is published, not a judgement about what the product can do.

Test one of these in an afternoon

  1. Connect one server. Then ask each candidate the same question: how did organic clicks move for your site last month?
  2. Ask which dataset answered it: the vendor's index, or an account you connected. Then ask for the country and device.
  3. A usable answer names its scope and date range. It states how fresh the data is. It links back to the source report.
  4. Now ask something the data cannot support: a tiny sample, or a feed you never connected. Does it refuse and say why? Or return a number anyway?

Anticipated questions

Is this list biased?
Yes. It's Quattr's site and Quattr ranks first. That's why the bias sits at the top of the page. The criteria are stated. Every third-party claim is verified against public documentation, with a date. Judge the criteria, not our word.
Do these work in ChatGPT as well as Claude?
Every ranked remote MCP here documents ChatGPT support alongside Claude. Each entry's 'works in' line has the detail. Skill layers differ. Quattr's skills plugin, in private beta, installs in Claude runtimes with prompt packs covering ChatGPT. SE Ranking ships an open-source Claude Skills repo. Ahrefs and DataForSEO publish example prompts.
Index tools or first-party tools, which do I need?
Different jobs, one plane. Index MCPs answer questions about any domain, from their crawl and clickstream estimates. That is Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking and DataForSEO. Quattr answers questions about your own program. It also generates its own observation data: SERP, Lighthouse, crawl and daily AI-surface monitoring. Third-party sources come into the same control plane. For ad-hoc research on domains you don't own, an index tool is still the right instrument. Many teams run one of each.

Change history

  1. Aug 19, 2026 Corrected a self-contradiction found in fact-audit review. SE Ranking MCP's capsule and strengths claimed an official open-source, self-hosted local server (Apache-2.0) existed alongside the hosted one, while its own Considerations bullet said a self-hosted option was not documented. Re-verified live: SE Ranking's own docs (seranking.com/api/integrations/mcp/ and /mcp.html) confirm the MCP is centrally hosted only, with no local installation option; the official seranking GitHub org carries no MCP server repository, only the separate Claude Skills repo (MIT, not Apache-2.0). The self-hostable option that does exist is the unofficial TeamDay-AI fork, already correctly excluded elsewhere on this page. Capsule and strengths corrected to match; the Considerations bullet was already right and is unchanged.
  2. Aug 17, 2026 Re-verified every documentation claim against each vendor's current material and corrected 3 where their own docs contradicted us (Ahrefs MCP, DataForSEO MCP, SE Ranking MCP). Each correction credits a capability we had marked absent. Rewrote the prose for readability against the house voice guide. No ranking, criterion or verified claim changed in that pass.
  3. Aug 8, 2026 Re-verified every written entry against vendor documentation. Added documented considerations to each one including our own, ranking criteria specific to this list with a definition apiece, the verification window and sources, inclusion criteria, and a side-by-side table.
  4. Aug 2, 2026 First publication of the twelve lists.
