What a SERP rank tracking MCP server does
An MCP server is the connection between your assistant and a system that holds data. Quattr observes the results pages for your tracked demand every day and models what it sees into a comparable share for you and each tracked competitor. Nothing in your own accounts records this, because it happens on results pages you do not own.
The reason it matters is the join. Your own clicks tell you what happened. Share tells you what happened around you. Read together they separate a fall you caused from a fall the whole market took, which is the difference between a fix and a false alarm.
Connect rank tracking in about two minutes
Nothing to authorise for this source. The observation runs on your account already.
- 01 Add the endpoint Paste it into your client's MCP settings. One server, every source, there is no per-source endpoint to manage.
https://mcp.quattr.com/mcp - 02 Sign in with Quattr OAuth 2.1 in the browser. The session is bound to your organisation and scoped read-only; no API key is created or stored in your client.
- 03 Name a segment, or do not Questions default to the overall market segment. Name a tracked segment instead and the answer carries that scope on the card, because a share figure means nothing without the set it was measured over.
What you can ask on day one
Plain questions, not segment syntax. Each one runs against the observation alone, though the second is better with Search Console connected.

Where Rank tracking reads, what it assumes beneath, and what it cannot reach. Filled rungs are measured; hatched rungs are taken on faith.
- R5 Rewarded out of reach Nothing this source records reaches up here.
- R4 Represented out of reach Nothing this source records reaches up here.
- R3 Referenced out of reach Nothing this source records reaches up here.
- R2 Retrieved reads here Your pages were retrieved into results across tracked demand. Share is what that position set implies.
- R1 Reachable assumed, not measured This source takes this rung on faith. Another one has to prove it.
A reading at any rung is only as trustworthy as the rungs beneath it. Share assumes the pages beneath it are reachable and were fetched. A share reading that holds while crawl coverage collapses is describing yesterday's site.
Where a single-source rank tracking MCP stops
Not at a feature the vendor forgot. At the edge of what an observation of results pages records.
- What did that ground cost us? Share is a position in a market. Turning a position into clicks, and a click into a page someone landed on, needs the first-party record of what actually arrived. needs Search Console
- Did any of it reach revenue? A share point is not money. Whether the ground you held or lost produced conversions against goals your organisation recognises is recorded on the other side of the click. needs GA4 / Adobe
- Are answer engines taking the demand? This observes results pages. Whether the same question is being answered inside ChatGPT or Perplexity, and who is cited there, is a different surface measured separately. needs AI visibility
- Did we pay to hold that ground? Organic standing says nothing about what was bought. Whether a position was defended with spend, and what that spend won in the auction, lives in the ads account. needs Google Ads
Seven more sources answer what rank tracking structurally cannot
Every source is one you already own or one Quattr collects for you. Connect none of them and the share answers still work. Connect Search Console and the question people actually ask becomes answerable in one sentence.
- Search Console yours The join this source exists for. Your clicks read against share, so a fall splits into market movement and the part that is yours to fix. 1 to 2 days behind
- GA4 or Adobe yours What the ground was worth. Share held or lost, expressed in conversions against your named goals rather than in percentage points. loads nightly
- AI visibility Quattr The demand moving off the results page entirely. Losing share while answer engines answer the same question is a different problem from losing it to a rival. ~1 day behind
- Google Ads yours The paid half of the same results page, so organic standing and auction coverage can be read as one picture rather than two reports. ~1 day behind
- Site crawl Quattr Whether the pages competing for that demand are structurally able to. A losing segment full of orphaned or canonicalised pages has a cause you can act on. per crawl schedule
- Server logs yours Whether crawlers kept coming for the pages that lost ground, which separates a ranking decision from a page nothing has fetched in weeks. hours to nightly
- Lighthouse / CWV Quattr Page experience on the templates competing in a segment, for when a share loss and a slow template turn out to sit on the same pages. varies by site
- The ladder that orders them R1 Reachable → R2 Retrieved → R3 Referenced → R4 Represented → R5 Rewarded. A broken lower rung invalidates every reading above it. The method →
Quattr MCP compared with a standalone visibility MCP
A category comparison, not a claim about any one vendor. A standalone connector is a good piece of software doing a narrower job; the table is here so you can tell which situation you are in before installing anything.
| Dimension | A standalone connector | Quattr MCP | When it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Whose demand is measured | The index's own keyword universe, available for any domain without configuration. | The demand tracked for your segments, modelled into share for you and your tracked competitors. | If you want a number for a domain nobody has configured, the index tool is the one. |
| The first-party join | No access to your Search Console, so visibility and your real clicks stay in separate reports. | Share and your own clicks read together, splitting a fall into market movement and your own. | The moment someone asks whether a drop was us or the market. |
| Other sources | None. One server per source; your assistant holds several unrelated connectors. | Seven more behind the same endpoint, joined on your segments rather than on keyword strings. | When standing has to be explained rather than reported. |
| How a question is answered | Visibility scores and rank rows come back; your assistant decides what they mean. | The question is routed to a governed analysis that names its segment and returns a verdict. | When the scope of a share number decides whether it is true. |
| Significance | Not offered. Share moves daily, and every movement looks like news. | Changes are tested before they are called changes, and undecidable ones are reported as undecidable. | Weekly reporting, where most share movement is noise. |
| What the number claims | Usually presented as visibility or estimated traffic, with the derivation in documentation. | CTR-modelled share of tracked demand, labelled directional on the card itself, and never revenue share. | When the figure enters a board deck and someone asks how it was derived. |
| Time to first answer | Minutes. Authorise the account and query any domain you like. | Minutes once the account is set up, because segments and competitor sets exist before the first question. | Honestly, this row favours the standalone tool when you want an answer this afternoon. |
| Cost | A subscription you may already hold, or free tiers for light use. | Included with a Quattr subscription. No separate MCP product, no separate bill. | If you are not a Quattr customer, the standalone tool is the one you can use this afternoon. |
Rows describe a category, checked against publicly documented behaviour. Named-vendor claims live on the comparison pages, dated. If a row is wrong or out of date, it is a defect, tell us and it changes.
What rank tracking itself will not tell you
- It is modelled, not measuredShare is derived by modelling clicks from observed positions across tracked demand. It is a comparable, directional figure rather than a count of anything, and every card says so.
- Tracked demand is not the whole marketThe figure is scoped to the keywords in a tracked segment. A competitor missing from the standings is untracked rather than absent, and a rival winning demand nobody tracks is invisible here.
- It is never revenue shareThis is share of modelled clicks on tracked keywords, not share of category revenue or of customers. The two move differently and are routinely confused in reporting.
- Share does not explain itselfA change says the ground moved, not why it moved. Causes sit in rankings, results-page features, content and technical health, which is why a share figure alone is a prompt to investigate.
Freshness, permissions and what is stored
- Freshness
- About a day behind. Results pages are observed daily and available the following day, with the observation date on the card.
- Scope
- Read-only. The MCP reads observations and cannot change a tracked segment or competitor set.
- Sign-in
- OAuth 2.1 in the browser. No API key is minted or stored in your client config.
- Tenancy
- Sessions are bound to your organisation. A session cannot reach another tenant's segments.
- Your prompts
- Your assistant sends the question to the server to route it. It is not used to train anything.
- The observation
- Daily results-page observation across the keyword sets and competitor sets configured per segment, with three years of history standard.

Clicks fell and share held, so most of the fall was the market contracting rather than ground lost. Clicks alone cannot separate the two, which is the whole reason this source exists.
Who can connect it, and what it costs
This is a source Quattr collects rather than one you connect. There is no account to authorise: if your organisation uses Quattr, segments, tracked keywords and competitor sets already exist, and the MCP is a way to ask about them where you are already working.
An index-backed visibility tool is the honest recommendation when speed matters more than scope. It will give you a number for any domain this afternoon without anyone configuring anything, which is the right trade for a quick read on a market you do not track, the trade being that the number is about the index's keyword universe rather than your demand.
Learn to read the numbers yourself
- topic Growing or losing? Brand-split, mix-check, and reading clicks against share before anyone narrates a quarter.
- topic The competitive map Share, rank battles, results-page features and the gap map, in one method.
- metric Search market share How it is modelled, what the percentage is a percentage of, and what it is not.
- report The search market share report What belongs in it, and why a share number without its segment is not reportable.
Questions people ask before connecting
Is this the same as an index visibility score?
No. A visibility score describes a domain against an index's own keyword universe. This is CTR-modelled share of the demand tracked for your segments, which is a narrower and more specific claim.
Can it tell me a competitor's traffic or revenue?
No. It reports their modelled share of tracked demand and their rankings on it. Estimating a rival's actual traffic is what a third-party panel does, and this is not one.
Where does the tracked keyword set come from?
From the segments configured on your account, which is why a share figure always carries its segment. Change the set and the number legitimately changes, because it is a share of that demand.
Why is our share a fraction of a percent?
Share is expressed on a nought-to-one-hundred scale as a percentage of modelled clicks across all tracked demand, so a strong position in one category is still a small slice of a broad market.
Can I see a competitor we do not track?
No. An untracked domain has no row, and the answer says untracked rather than implying absence. Adding them to the set is a change made in Quattr, not from chat.
How is this different from rank tracking?
Rank tracking reports positions. Share weights those positions by the clicks they are modelled to earn, so ranking third on heavy demand outweighs ranking first on demand nobody has.
What if I connect nothing else?
Standing, breakdowns and the keyword gap all work. The growth-against-share read is the one that wants Search Console, because it needs your real clicks on the other side.
Is a standalone visibility MCP ever the better choice?
Yes. For a fast read on a domain nobody has configured, or a market you do not track, an index-backed tool answers today and this one cannot answer at all.
