What a GA4 MCP server does

An MCP server is the connection between your assistant and a system that holds data. Connect one for GA4 and your assistant can read the property you already own: sessions, engagement, landing pages, and conversions against the goals your organisation configured. It answers in the chat window rather than in a report you have to build first.

Analytics is the only source on this list that knows whether search produced anything the business recognises. Everything above it describes demand and position. This describes what people did once they arrived, which is the half of the question a search team is usually asked to defend.

Connect GA4 in about two minutes

One endpoint, an OAuth sign-in, and the property your organisation already reports on.

  1. 01 Add the endpoint Paste it into your client's MCP settings. One server, every source, there is no per-source endpoint to manage. https://mcp.quattr.com/mcp
  2. 02 Sign in with Quattr OAuth 2.1 in the browser. The session is bound to your organisation and scoped read-only; no API key is created or stored in your client.
  3. 03 Ask about a goal by name Name the goal you care about rather than asking for conversions in total. Configured goals overlap, so a total would double-count, and the assistant will ask which one you meant.

What you can ask on day one

Plain questions, not report syntax. Each one runs against analytics alone, nothing else has to be connected first.

  • Which landing pages lost the most Purchase conversions last month, and did traffic fall or did the rate?
  • Is the conversion-rate drop this month real, or is the sample too small to say?
  • Where do people fall out of the funnel between session and checkout?
  • Break organic conversions down by product category for the last eight weeks.
  • Which pages get plenty of organic sessions and almost no conversions?

The GA4 tools it exposes

  • web_analytics_overview Sessions, users, engagement and conversion rate over a window, filtered and grouped. R5 Rewarded
  • conversions_overview Conversions and revenue against your named goals, by page, channel or category. R5 Rewarded
  • funnel_dropoff Where people leave between the steps you define, and how much each step loses. R5 Rewarded
  • pop_significance Whether a period-over-period change in rate or count is real, noise, or undecidable. R5 Rewarded

You never name one of these. The assistant routes the question; the reference is public so an answer can be checked against what it was built from.

The evidence ladder All four tools read R5

Where GA4 or Adobe reads, what it assumes beneath, and what it cannot reach. Filled rungs are measured; hatched rungs are taken on faith.

  1. R5 Rewarded reads here The visit produced a named outcome you defined. The top rung, and the only one analytics sees.
  2. R4 Represented assumed, not measured This source takes this rung on faith. Another one has to prove it.
  3. R3 Referenced assumed, not measured This source takes this rung on faith. Another one has to prove it.
  4. R2 Retrieved assumed, not measured This source takes this rung on faith. Another one has to prove it.
  5. R1 Reachable assumed, not measured This source takes this rung on faith. Another one has to prove it.

A reading at any rung is only as trustworthy as the rungs beneath it. A conversion count assumes four rungs beneath it that analytics cannot see. When conversions fall, nothing in this source can tell you which of those four moved.

Where a single-source GA4 MCP stops

Not at a feature the vendor forgot. At the edge of what analytics records.

  • Why did the sessions stop arriving? Analytics starts at the landing page. What decided whether the visit happened at all, impressions, position, the results page itself, is recorded in a different system entirely. needs Search Console
  • Did we lose ground, or did everyone? Analytics measures your property in isolation. A fall every competitor shared is a market event, and nothing inside your own property can tell the two apart. needs Rank tracking
  • Are we buying these conversions twice? Paid and organic conversions land in the same property, so the overlap is invisible. Which terms you pay for while already ranking is a question for the spend data. needs Google Ads
  • Do answer engines send anyone who converts? Referrals from answer engines arrive as ordinary sessions. Whether you were cited at all, and on which prompts, is observed rather than recorded by your site. needs AI visibility

Seven more sources answer what GA4 structurally cannot

Every source is one you already own or one Quattr collects for you. Connect none of them and the analytics answers still work. Connect any of them and a conversion figure stops being a number without a cause.

Quattr MCP compared with a standalone GA4 MCP

A category comparison, not a claim about any one vendor. A standalone connector is a good piece of software doing a narrower job; the table is here so you can tell which situation you are in before installing anything.

Dimension A standalone connector Quattr MCP When it matters
Analytics coverage Full. The reporting API surface exposed as tools, including realtime reports. Sessions, engagement, named goals, funnels and significance. No realtime; the load is nightly. If you need what happened in the last hour, the standalone tool can answer and this cannot.
Other sources None. One server per source; your assistant holds several unrelated connectors. Seven more behind the same endpoint, joined on your segments rather than on URL strings. The moment a conversion figure needs a cause rather than a value.
How a question is answered You choose the metrics and dimensions, or the assistant guesses. Rows come back; you interpret. The question is routed to a governed analysis that states its scope and returns a verdict. When someone other than you has to trust the number.
Significance Not offered. A 3% move in conversion rate and a 30% move look alike. Changes are tested before they are called changes, and undecidable ones are reported as undecidable. Monthly reporting, where conversion rate moves on small samples.
Named goals Whatever the property exposes, summed if you ask for a total. Goals are asked for by name and never summed, because configured goals overlap and a total double-counts. Any organisation with more than one goal configured, which is most of them.
Segmentation Report filters on paths, channels and events. Your own taxonomy, product lines, intents, page groups, built during onboarding. When "which pages" means a business grouping, not a path pattern.
Time to first answer Minutes. Install, authorise the property, ask. Minutes once the account is set up, because the taxonomy that makes joins work exists before the first question. Honestly, this row favours the standalone tool when you want an answer in the next ten minutes.
Cost Usually free and open source, and the official one is free. Included with a Quattr subscription. No separate MCP product, no separate bill. If you are not a Quattr customer, the standalone tool is the one you can use this afternoon.

Rows describe a category, checked against publicly documented behaviour. Named-vendor claims live on the comparison pages, dated. If a row is wrong or out of date, it is a defect, tell us and it changes.

What GA4 itself will not tell you

  • Goals overlap and are never summedConfigured goals routinely count the same visit twice, so a total is wrong in a way nobody can see. The assistant asks which goal you meant rather than adding them together.
  • It will not reconcile with Search ConsoleSearch Console counts clicks on a results page; analytics counts sessions that started. They measure different events at different moments, and they are not made to agree.
  • There is no query-level conversion dataNot in analytics, not anywhere. Attribution stops at the landing page, and any tool offering per-keyword revenue for organic search is modelling it rather than measuring it.
  • Consent and thresholding shape the countsConsent choices, modelling and privacy thresholds mean analytics counts are estimates that tend to undercount, and low-volume rows can disappear rather than appear as zero.

Freshness, permissions and what is stored

Freshness
Loads nightly. A same-day question gets yesterday's number, labelled as yesterday's.
Scope
Read-only. The MCP cannot write, change a goal, or alter anything in your analytics property.
Sign-in
OAuth 2.1 in the browser. No API key is minted or stored in your client config.
Tenancy
Sessions are bound to your organisation. A session cannot reach another tenant's property.
Your prompts
Your assistant sends the question to the server to route it. It is not used to train anything.
History
Three years is standard, and the window can be customised per account at onboarding.

  3. 03 Nightly load
    • lag enters: Loads nightly.
  4. 04 Named-goal binding
    • modelling begins: Goals overlap, so they are never summed.
  5. 05 Segment join
    • modelling begins: It will not reconcile with Search Console. Different subjects, counted differently.

Who can connect it, and what it costs

The MCP is included with a Quattr subscription. There is no separate MCP product and no separate bill. If your organisation already uses Quattr, analytics is almost certainly connected on the platform side already, and the MCP is a new doorway to data you are paying for.

The joins depend on setup. Your segments, product lines and named goals are configured before the first question, which is what lets an answer speak your business language instead of a URL pattern. If you want a number in the next ten minutes with none of that in place, the official free connector is the honest recommendation, and it runs in about ten minutes.

Questions people ask before connecting

Is this an official Google product?

No. It is Quattr's MCP server, reading the analytics property you authorise. Google publishes an official GA4 MCP server of its own, which is free; this is a different thing with eight sources behind it.

Does it work with Adobe Analytics as well as GA4?

Yes. Adobe is read as a report-suite file feed produced by Data Warehouse, so the same questions work, and the assistant names which platform a figure came from.

How does it read GA4, the API or BigQuery?

Both are supported. Larger GA4 360 accounts are typically set up through the BigQuery export, and the choice is made at onboarding rather than switched silently mid-question.

Can it write to my analytics, or change a goal?

No. The scope is read-only by design. An assistant that can reconfigure your measurement is a different risk profile from one that can only read it.

Can it give me one total for all my conversions?

No, and it will say why. Configured goals overlap, so summing them counts the same visit more than once. Ask for a goal by name and the number means something.

How far back can it look?

Three years is the standard window, and it can be customised per account. Anything beyond what was retained at ingestion is honestly unavailable rather than estimated.

What if I connect analytics and nothing else?

Everything on this page above the comparison table works. Questions needing another source get a refusal that names what is missing, instead of a modelled guess.

Is a standalone GA4 MCP ever the better choice?

Yes. If your questions never leave analytics, you want realtime figures, or you want something running in ten minutes without talking to anyone, the official free connector is the right tool.
