Cannibalization report
also called Keyword cannibalisationSelf-competition reportOverlapping pages reportConsolidation candidates
Queries where two or more of your URLs take impressions and rank positions, with the impression split, the position each page holds, and how stable the split is over time. Multiple pages on one query is not automatically a fault, different intents legitimately share vocabulary, so every candidate is presented for review with the intent caveat attached rather than as a defect.
Who it is for, and what it settles
- Audience
- Content lead
- Job to be done
- Surface queries where more than one of your own pages competes, and flag which pairs are worth consolidating.
- Cadence
- Quarterly
The metrics, in three tiers
Headline numbers carry the story. Diagnostics explain a headline that moved. Guardrails stop a wrong conclusion. Every row links to the definition, the formula, the caveats and what the metric is not all live on the metric page.
Headline What you lead with 3
Diagnostic Reached for when a headline moves 5
- Organic impressions raw measure impressions
- Average CTR derived metric percent
- Average position rank results-page position
- Ranking movement (gainers and losers) derived metric keywords classified as gainers, losers or flat
- Period-over-period change derived metric the same unit as the metric being compared

- R5 Rewarded , not covered
It reads the upper rungs only. If a lower rung is broken, fix that before you present this, a report that never checks whether pages can be reached will keep reporting movement that may not be yours.

What to say out loud when you present it
Two pages on one query is evidence of overlap, not proof of harm, a commercial page and a guide answering the same phrase are often both correct. Rotation between URLs across days is normal for Google and should not be read as instability. Consolidation is irreversible in practice, so treat every row as a review candidate and check intent before merging.
